A year of awards, innovations, and expansion

Sentinel Homes 2023 review

We bid farewell to an amazing 2023, let’s take a moment to reflect on the year that’s been. Even though it’s been a tough economy for everyone, we were fortunate enough to be helping a number of brilliant clients bring their dream homes to life. We brought Sentinel Homes to new places around this wonderful country, and opened three stunning new show homes to showcase how clever design can deliver a beautiful new home. And all that hard work paid off, with another medal haul at this year's House of The Year.

Expanding our horizons

This year, we expanded to Whangarei and Christchurch, all thanks to the ambition and passion of Ric Butturini and Troy Lange. For Ric, his journey has come full circle from being a finalist for Whangarei Apprentice of the Year to working on high-profile projects in London. He’s been building a legacy of distinctive, timeless homes that stand out for all the right reasons. And in Troy we have a true red and black Cantabrian bringing the Sentinel experience to Christchurch backed years of building expertise. Stay tuned for even more new territories in 2024.

New show homes

With three new show homes under our belt, it’s fun to look back and realise just how busy we’ve been this year. Here are the new show homes we’ve created:

  • A compact marvel in Wellington
The unveiling of the Wellington team’s show home was a 2023 game-changer. Guided by managing director Hayden Rau’s innovative vision, this compact marvel proved exceptional living doesn't need massive square footage. Every detail showcases our dedication to quality and modern design, from the strategic skylights to the dual outdoor entertainment areas.
  • Smart structural design in Karaka
Will Batts, leading the team in Franklin, blended style and smarts to craft this dreamy Karaka show home. Bathed in natural light, the open-plan spaces seamlessly connect to a killer deck. We love how Karaka oozes modern luxury with a contemporary vibe, tall ceilings, and big windows. Will's secret? Smarter structural design that adds to the elegance, not the price tag.
  • Upside-down innovation in Ara Hills
In Auckland North West, the Ara Hills show home was brought to life by managing director Maree van de Water. Its innovative upside-down layout maximises the 199 square meters, showcasing smaller, smarter living in Auckland. Maree's savvy cost-saving techniques, from higher ceilings to strategic lighting and clever wallpaper choices, give a luxurious feel on a budget. The home also prioritises long-term savings with low-maintenance prefab cladding, central heating, and solar panels.

Awards, awards, awards

It’s been a big year of awards for Sentinel Homes. We were proud to have won not one but seven awards at 2023 House of the Year (HOTY). Taranaki stole the spotlight with their timeless four-bedroom home. It took out the Regional Gold, Category Winner, and a spot on the National Top 100.

Sentinel Taranaki's award-winning home

Our Waikato team’s chic, Italian brick home also did well, taking home Category Winner and Double Regional Golds. Then there was Auckland Central's Regional Gold winner — a hidden treasure blending into the cityscape. And in Nelson, the team took out Regional Silver in Marsden Valley for the home that broke all the rules with unique angles and faces.

Underpinning that success is a clear mission – make quality non-negotiable, even when times are tough. We will always take our client’s vision to make any house as unique as they are. Nate from Sentinel Homes Waikato puts it simply – "We're not cutting corners. We're perfecting them."

Living the good life

As we look back on 2023, there's much to be thankful for. To our clients, partners and our Sentinel Homes team – we thank you! For us, it's not just about building houses; it's about creating homes and communities. Here's to more joy, more wins and more good times.
